Seward Community Co-op Visual Merchandiser

PURPOSE:  To provide leadership in creating unique, welcoming and attractive retail environments and ensure Seward Co-op’s brand image is cultivated and consistent at all locations.  To plan and implement visual merchandising strategies that support Seward Co-op brand objectives and business unit merchandising objectives. To facilitate effective stakeholder communications within and between business locations.


STATUS:   Reports to Merchandising Manager

 Full time, Pay Level V





A.  Assist customers in a friendly and efficient manner.

B.  Share customer feedback with appropriate staff.



A. Participate in establishment of brand standards and guidelines.

B. Provide staff with training and resources that support merchandising objectives.

C. Contribute to creation of promotional calendars and planners.

D. Work with merchandising staff to plan displays and resets.

E. Visit each retail business unit regularly and support implementation of co-op promotional plans.  

F. Help to build displays as needed and ensure effective integration of promotional materials and samples.

G. Conduct periodic comprehensive audits of merchandising and signage and facilitate compliance with brand standards.

H. Facilitate cross-merchandising.

I. Work with Marketing staff to create sign templates and select signage fixtures.

J. Work with Merchandising and Marketing managers to plan décor.

K. Ensure effective presentation of marketing and educational materials in retail areas.

L. Coordinate merchandising audits of competing stores. 



A. Administer selection and purchasing of merchandising supplies, fixtures, and equipment. 

B. Coordinate with Operations and sales department staff to install fixtures, equipment, signage and décor.

C. Manage supplier relationships and negotiate favorable prices, terms, and service.

D. Recommend change/addition of suppliers to Merchandising Manager.

E. Create and maintain a comprehensive supplies and fixtures ordering list.

F. Manage a supply budget. 

G. Maintain appropriate inventory levels of fixtures and supplies.

H. Work with stakeholders to resolve fixture and equipment issues.

I. Maintain accurate and up-to-date purchase records.

J. Review invoices for accuracy, note discrepancies and damages, and coordinate returns and credits following established procedures.  

K. Submit new vendor information and invoices to Finance department in a timely manner.




A. Attend team and ad-hoc meetings, relevant trade shows and conferences.

B. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records.

C. Perform other tasks assigned by the Merchandising Manager.

• Ability to develop and maintain systems and procedures

• Merchandising experience in a grocery retail environment

• Knowledge of the natural foods industry preferred

• Computer literacy with Windows-based PC systems including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint

• Experience in purchasing with financial accountability preferred

• English proficiency

• Multi-lingual a plus

• Ability to lift 50 lbs. regularly

• Ability to travel regularly between business locations

• Willingness and ability to meet evolving job requirements
