Now Hiring! Full-time Human Resources Manager

We are currently accepting applications for a permanent Human Resources Manager. This process of reviewing applications will begin August 18. Eastside Food Co-op is located in the heart of a vibrant, diverse urban community, Northeast Minneapolis. Northeast is a “small town in a big city,” offering community minded and friendly people around every nook and cranny. Northeast also boasts a nationally recognized Arts community. The co-op has been an anchor business on Central Avenue since 2003, and we are planning for expansion in 2015.

Job Purpose: The HR Manager will develop excellent human resources systems and continually work to provide the systems and environment necessary to meet the goals of the organization. The HR manager will lead the Co-op’s efforts in the areas of recruiting, integrating and developing a qualified staff, guiding the organization through positive change.


  1. Payroll and benefits management:

    1. Oversee payroll processing ensuring utmost accuracy and timeliness.

    2. Oversee and administer the employee benefit package ensuring accurate tracking of eligibility dates for employees.

  1. Hiring and Personnel Policy Standards:

    1. Work with all managers to ensure job descriptions are maintained and updated to reflect the responsibilities of each position.

    2. Process incoming job applications and resumes and maintain those documents in organized manner so that they are easily accessible. Provide any pre-hiring services that the co-op needs

    3. Assist and coach managers in ensuring appropriate hiring practices.

    4. Recruit, interview and hire diverse, qualified candidates, ensuring compliance with Equal Employment Opportunity Law.

    5. Maintain updated employee policies and manuals.

    6. Maintain updated pay scale ensuring equity and fairness in compensation.

    7. Assist in any grievance complaints or conflict resolution processes as necessary.

  1. Performance:

    1. Research and develop the evaluation systems.

    2. Track all review dates and ensure that managers perform timely reviews.

    3. Work to analyze overall training and development needs for the organization each year.

    4. Oversee the maintenance of staff appreciation programs.

    5. Ensure that the co-op has effective communication systems. .

    6. Maintain a current knowledge of legislation and developments in the HR field, and ensure compliance.

  2. Leadership and Guidance:

    1. Serve as a member of the Steering Team and lead the HR Team, providing counsel and strategic planning.

    2. Monitor the organization’s personnel policies and practices to ensure all labor and legal requirements.

    3. Assist, coach and train managers with personnel issues as needed.

    4. Assist with All Staff Meetings

  3. Supervisory: Training Coordinator, Human Resources Assistant, Payroll Assistant, Communications Coordinator


  • Professional training in a Human Resources related field and/or at least 5 years related experience. PHR or SPHR Preferred. Well-versed in payroll processing systems.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

  • Ability to maintain confidential information with professionalism.

  • Ability to be a model of all leadership and conduct standards.

  • Ability to exercise diplomacy and deal effectively with conflict.

  • Ability to develop a supportive relationship with managers and staff.

  • Ability to deal calmly with challenging and/or difficult people and situations.

  • Good time-management skills.

  • An energetic, forward-thinking and creative individual with high ethical standards.

  • Ability to prioritize effectively to meet the most pressing needs of the organization. .

  • Good computer skills including proficiency in Excel, Word, Powerpoint, email and internet.

  • Experience in accounting, payroll, HR, employee self-services and benefit management software.

  • Excellent customer service skills.

  • Reliable and predictable attendance.

  • An on-going interest in learning new skills.
